Bhubaneswar Kidnapping Case: Six College Students Arrested After Swift Police Rescue of Plus II Student in High-Stakes Operation
Bhubaneswar police arrested six college students for kidnapping a Plus II student over an alleged financial dispute. The victim was rescued unharmed within hours through a strategic decoy operation after a ransom demand of ₹1 lakh. The swift intervention prevented escalation and ensured the teenager’s safe recovery.
According to police officials, the 17-year-old student was travelling with a friend on a scooter to his father’s shop in the Ghatikia area under the jurisdiction of Bharatpur Police limits when a group of miscreants intercepted them. The assailants forcibly abducted the teenager and took him away in a vehicle.
The victim’s friend immediately informed his father, who promptly filed a police complaint. Shortly thereafter, the family also received a ransom call demanding ₹1 lakh in exchange for the boy’s safe release, escalating the urgency of the situation.
Commissioner of Police S. Dev Datta Singh stated that police personnel devised a strategic trap to apprehend the accused. “Two of our personnel posed as family members of the victim and carried ₹1 lakh in cash to meet the kidnappers at a house in VSS Nagar. Our team overpowered the accused and rescued the boy within two hours of the incident,” he said.
Police confirmed that all six accused are aged between 19 and 20 years and are students pursuing Bachelor of Technology and other technical courses in the city. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused claimed the victim had borrowed money from them and failed to repay it, leading to the abduction attempt.
Authorities further noted that such incidents involving known individuals can be particularly dangerous, as personal disputes often escalate into violent outcomes. Officials emphasized that the operation was conducted with extreme caution to ensure the victim’s safety throughout.
The arrested individuals are currently under investigation, and further legal proceedings are expected as authorities examine the financial dispute and the circumstances leading to the kidnapping.
The incident highlights growing concerns over youth involvement in serious criminal activities stemming from personal financial conflicts, while also underscoring the effectiveness of rapid police response in preventing potential harm.
